Frequently Asked Questions:

Crews will cover 35-50 miles (about 7 miles a day) over steep, rocky, mountainous terrain. Trails are a combination of narrow foot paths and old logging roads. Trails are blazed with white paint, but crews should be well-experienced in navigating by map and compass.

The ideal crew should have ten youth and two adults. Outpost programming space is limited and we want you to be able to enjoy all the high-adventure activity you want!

High Knoll is open to all scouts who will be at least 13 years old by September 1 of the year attending. Every crew must have TWO leaders or crew advisors who are registered in Scouting. Crews with female youth must have at least one female adult leader over 21. Provisional scouts will be placed in a crew meeting these requirements.

One adult leader must be at least 21 while the other can be 18. Co-ed crews must have both male & female adult leaders. One leader must have CPR/First Aid Certification, and a Wilderness First Aid course is highly recommended.

Merit Badges:

Merit badges may require a minimum age to participate, pre-requisites to begin the badge, or an additional minimal fee for supplies. Some merit badges may have requirements that cannot be completed at camp, and scouts will receive partial completions on these badges.  Awards may be earned pending crew’s chosen itinerary.
